Battle Dinner is next-level “Dinner and a Movie”

 Over Five Years of Secrets

Battle Dinner is simply a themed dinner party that concludes with a movie. Sure, you could call it “dinner and a movie” but we’ve evolved that concept into a game… because cooking for a bunch of guests isn’t stressful enough, right? It’s not dinner, it’s competitive entertaining!

Better yet, no one knows the movie and they try and guess what it is before dessert, all based on menu clues.

For example, if you were guessing an action movie and the cocktail was tequila-based, you’d probably narrow down your guesses. Add to that the names of the menu items, and do that through four courses and you are guaranteed to have witty banter that goes beyond any ice-breaker you might have planned.

The Origin Story

We’d been having a monthly dinner that was hosted at one of the two primary couples’ home. Each dinner the host would try and out cook the previous couples’ dinner, which was fun but certainly not a game. We’d end each dinner by watching something on Netflix and that was that.

Then Fred and Laura went to Germany for Octoberfest. On the flight, Fred watched Chef and was inspired to recreate the Cubano sandwiches and they’d rent the movie to watch afterward. It was a ton of fun so we continued to trade off with each couple building a menu themed to the movie.

The next turn came when we decided to keep the movie a secret and see if the guests could guess what the movie was–it worked! Dinner was a hit. The game was fun for guests and hosts alike and we’ve yet to have a movie go un-guessed.

Fine Tuning

We’ve been doing this for 5+ years and with over 60 Battle Dinners completed, we decided to chronicle the events on on this blog. We’re back-filling the best we can so follow us @BattleDinner on Instagram for live updates.

Your Invitation

While we limit the number of guests at each dinner, let us know if you are interested in attending. We’ve had people host their own Battle Dinners and you don’t need to limit your creativity to movies. Try it yourself and let us know what you did and how it went!
